The Little Shed in Penenden Heath is a relaxed, no-fuss cafe that fits smoothly into the rhythm of local life just a short stroll from the nearby park. It’s the kind of spot where the morning rush feels friendly rather than frantic, popular with people dropping in for a satisfying breakfast or a well-crafted coffee to start their day.

Breakfast here leans towards hearty, sit-down comfort with options like the Big Builder’s and Veggie Breakfasts that earn praise for generous portions and thoughtful cooking. The food arrives hot and straightforward, making it a dependable choice if you’re after a proper morning meal without pretense. The hollandaise classics, like Eggs Benedict and Royale, hint at a touch of brunch polish, perfect for a slower weekend visit.

Visitors appreciate the approachable service: the staff tend to be welcoming and attentive, quick to sort out orders if anything’s off, and genuinely accommodating—whether that means switching your milk in a latte or making your dog feel at home (dogs are welcome here, which adds to the easygoing feel).

The atmosphere is cozy and casual with a vibe that invites lingering, especially if you’re here to catch up with friends or recharge after a walk in the park. The cafe’s size and layout feel intimate rather than sprawling, which reinforces a quiet community hub rather than a busy commercial spot.

Locals seem to value The Little Shed for its straightforward approach—good coffee, honest food, and caring service without frills. It’s best visited in the mornings or early afternoons when the place carries that comfortable buzz of people settling in for breakfast or brunch. Whether you’re grabbing a latte on your own or sharing a plate of smashed avocado toast with friends, it fits the bill for a welcoming, down-to-earth cafe experience in Maidstone.

Honestly the staff are overly accommodating, food was lovely, I felt comfortable, I had ordered a latte without thinking to ask for oat milk so I didn’t drink it. I was asked was everything ok and this was rectified straight away. I was given a new one with oat milk. Not sure if I paid for twice as I didn’t look at the receipt but I was very much willing. Lovely service. They accept dogs also

Great little cafe next to the park. Delicious breakfasts, with awesome sausages! Good selection of cakes and light bites too. Can’t wait to visit again.

Most flavourful and well cooked breakfast in Maidstone. We had the Big Builders Breakfast, one with scrambled, one with fried eggs. Both excellent. Midrange price for top end food. All the food was perfectly cooked and all hot. Will be going back to try other meals. Coffee lovely too. And dog friendly!

Visited a couple weekends ago and what a fantastic spot for brunch! The staff were very welcoming and helpful, great cosy atmosphere. My smashed avocado on toast was fresh and delicious and a very generous portion for the price. Overall a great experience and looking forward to visiting again soon to try the French toast

Finally a local brilliant breakfast place. Good and drinks were brilliant and came out fairly quickly even with it being very busy. The sourdough toast is so fresh and perfectly toasted. It was a tad confusing if you just sit or wait at the door. But you can just take a seat. Also found out it is dog friendly which is a nice to know. Overall it was a great experience and wo will be returning!

A lovely spot with a great atmosphere. I went at lunchtime and it was packed, so be prepared for a crowd! I really liked the feel of the place, though I have to say the coffee prices are a bit steep but that's the same everywhere you go. The staff were polite, professional and quick. Would recommend a visit.

Beautiful little brunch spot. Only has less than a dozen tables so may have to wait or book at weekends. Highly recommend the club sandwich, which was very unassuming and reasonably priced on the menu but was brilliant when it came out. The cakes are amazing homemade (at their other shop in Tunbridge Wells) but really all food is delicious at a high quality. Lovely high quality sausages and bacon used in their fried breakfasts. Smoothie was thick and well blended. Definitely a place to go back to again and again. The only one slight negative to mention is we once tried to go at 1:30 on a Sunday and they said they had stopped doing hot food already as they had been so busy all morning. I understand the staff were knackered but was a shame when the closing time was 3pm as we didn’t expect that. Worth phoning ahead for to check if you are making plans. Can get noisy as it’s not very big as family friendly but to be expected. There are free parking spaces outside the front (may need to wait for one but otherwise on street free parking or by the park) and it’s opposite a field/play park/woodland so handy to take the dog for a walk and pop in as it’s dog friendly too.
